Miss North Texas, Brittany as a tutor

Every week for the past five months I have been blessed to be a mentor and a tutor for two of the sweetest girls at Metz Elementary School in Austin, Texas.

Walking in on my first day of tutoring to my surprise the teacher lead me to a Spanish-speaking classroom. I don’t know any Spanish I thought, my foreign language is American Sign Language. The teacher introduced me to a sweet fifth grade girl who looked up at me with beautiful brown eyes that said I am willing if you are. I was.

My job was to help teacher her how to speak English! She was a transition student learning how to speak the English Language. While everyone else in the classroom had Spanish speaking tutors she and I were the only two communicating in English. She would look right into my face to avoid distraction and try her very hardest to learn. We would read, work on vocabulary, spell and play brain stimulation games.

My second student, a precious vibrant first grader was ready to absorb anything we had to work on even though it was hard for her to concentrate and stay on task. Because she had this problem I took it upon myself to add something fun to our study time. As tutors we are not allowed to bribe or give the student any type of reward.

So every time we worked before hand I would create a spelling sheet that had her name in bright colors at the top, cute numbers down the side and a pink pen she could write her words with. At the end I would grade it in front of her while she anxiously awaited her score. As simple as this may seem it kept her on track because she thought this made spelling fun. We also worked on reading skills, grammar, and learning games.

From working with these two girls and being a mentor the point was for them to learn from me, but I have truly learned from them. I have learned never to take for granted the importance of a good education. Never to limit yourself or your dreams because if a 12-year-old girl has the determination to sit with a college tutor every week and learn a foreign language, knowledge is limitless. But most importantly I have learned that you are a role model even if you don’t know or ask for it.

My first grade student asked me to come to her birthday party a few months later, not to forget and come every year. She didn’t know that I was involved in pageants and I didn’t have a crown on my head. She admired me for me, a UT student in a sweatshirt who for an hour every week only cared about her. Those are the things that touched my heart and will always leave a lasting impression.

Happy Father's day from Brooks, Miss Frisco

Father’s Day
My mom, sister, grandmother, and I joined my dad, Doo, for a father’s day celebration this past Sunday. We had brunch at a new Cuban restaurant called Cubanitas after which we forced my poor dad to go shopping. It might have not been what he’d had in mind, but us girls sure had fun! Happy belated Father’s Day to all you dads out there…especially the ones that put up with a house full of women ;) Love you, Doo!

I have the best support in the world. Above are the two prettiest sweetest young girls I have ever met. Raleigh and Kristin are my two Lone Star Princesses and they have been so supportive throughout my whole year as Miss North Texas.
Kristen (the cute blonde) always makes me laugh. She has the best demeanor. Anytime I have butterflies she’s the go to girl because her personality is so relaxed and personable. Her beautiful smile and warm heart caught my attention the moment I met her!

Raleigh is a great role model of what an “opening” to an interview should sound like. She recently competed in the American Coed North Texas pageant and shared with me the cutest most confident opening description of her self that words can make. She always brings a smile to my face and makes me happy. What a doll!

These are my two girls introducing themselves at the MPFO mock pageant. They both came to cheer me on. What more could you ask for. Both of them took time away from the beginning of summer swim and playtime to come watch me. But, look at those tans. They could use a day off!
I am so blessed to have the most wonderful girls in my life, we are going to have a blast at Miss Texas, and I can’t wait.

Miss North Texas Brittany Forrester sharing her school program

I was recently able to visit the greatest groups of kids. I got to know many different faces and personalities during my day. I went to different classrooms and spoke with little ones from kindergarten all the way through the sixth grade. These are the moments that truly remind me of why I am here and involved with this great organization. My main goal for the afternoon was to educate each and every young person about different types of bullying, respect, how to be a good friend and how not become a bully yourself.

I shared my three points 1. Avoid Bad Situations 2. Project confidence 3. Tell Someone. to each student through games, skits and even a little bit of dancing.

There is a purpose and a lesson to go along with each of these points. I would ask for a few volunteers and have them act out things such as what being confident looks like. I want students to not only learn from me but each other too. We also read a book together, played a question answer game, drew what we thought bullying looked like and completed one of my surveys.

Many students had their own story to tell. I would laugh because as I was talking I could see hands and faces wanting to tell me everything that has happened in their own lives. My platform is not just about a kid stealing another’s lunch money. It confronts real life issues that really impact lives. This is not only for students. Each and every one of us battle forms bullying even if we don’t know it. Bullying can start as young as kindergarten and continue throughout your life. Repercussions of bully can lead to drugs, alcohol, pre marital sex, eating disorders, depression and even suicide. If you take a minute to think about your own life you may remember a time someone said something hurtful to you that has really stuck. That is being bullied. Even newer forms of bullying have evolved. Cyber bullies. It is something that we all face every single day, and with the right mind frame and education we can all relate and help improve this huge issue.

I love speaking to each and every class that I go into. If I could do a million school programs a day I would. These children are at such an impressionable age and it takes the right words and person to mold them in the appropriate direction. I know that I have helped in the molding process to create something beautiful.

Teen Plano, Taylor celebrates with her Track Team

Track season is finally over and I decided to give a banquet at my house for all the girls. They all came over during 1st period and we swam, ate breakfast, and received awards for the year. My coach gave me the “hard luck” award because I got a concussion at district meet during 100 hurdles after being ranked 1st in that event. I ended up advancing to regionals in 300 hurdles out of pure anger! But… I always have next year.

Teen Plano, Taylor joins dad and cousin in Relay for Life

My Aunt Donna passed away to breast cancer 2 weeks before Relay for Life and my dad formed a team representing Donna through his bank. There were enough volunteers to form 7 different teams each consisting of 20 people. The teams representing Donna raised a total of $35,000. My entire family attended Relay for Life from start to finish and walked many laps for Donna. Seeing all the people there to support her was heartwarming and helped us realize how many lives she touched.

MPFO sets date for Prelim Pageant

We have set the weekend of November 8th and 9th, 2008 as our preliminary pageant for 2009 titleholders, Miss and Teen. The pageant will be held at Plano West Senior High School. Time to be determined.

Also, we will be holding a Little Miss Pageant for girls ages 0-12 yr at the same time.

Miss Plano and Miss Frisco visit VA Hospital

Last Thursday (May 22nd), Anna and I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Dallas Veterans Hospital. Several titleholders participated in the Pre-Memorial Day Show, produced by Bruce Wallace, which is in it’s 16th year. It was incredible to be able to entertain and speak with all of the veterans and it genuinely made us remember what Memorial Day is all about–supporting our troops who have so graciously given themselves for our freedom. On May 12, 2008, Brooks emceed the Dallas CAPPIE Awards, a Tony Award styled event. The CAPPIES is a national organization based in Washington D.C. that celebrates excellence in high school performing arts. The Dallas Chapter had its Awards Gala on May 12th. The MPFO bunch decided to have a party to celebrate the birthdays of all our titleholders. It is so hard to recognize the birthdays during the year, so we thought we would have a party. It also gave them a chance to have some fun with some of their Lone Star Princesses. The title holders teamed up with a Princess and played a matching game, then each of them, titleholders and princesses played an updated verison of pin the crown on teen heart throb "Troy" from High School Musical.

Teen Frisco, Lea Ciskowski named most improved tennis player at school

I have a background of athletics, which includes just about every sport imaginable. My mother wanted to support me in whatever I wanted to do; the problem was that I wanted to do everything! Since then, I have narrowed it down to one sport: tennis. Tennis first appealed to me because 1) I could get a tan while playing, 2) my brother played tennis, 3) tennis boys are cute, 4) I was actually pretty good at it, and 5) I did not get sick of it. I had always been mediocre at the other sports because I had never committed myself fully to them. It was cool to finally have a natural ability for something athletic.

I have been playing for about two years now and I play on my school’s varsity team. I am the #2 singles player and I even got to go to the district tournament this year. Unfortunately, I lost in the quarterfinals but I played well and lost a good match. My team had our tennis banquet last night and I was named the "Most Improved Player". My coach even nicknamed me "bulldog" because of my tenacity on the court. I owe this to Mental Management. This year, by working with Heather Sumlin and Lanny Bassham, I have grown so much and I have learned how to apply what I learned in the mental seminars for pageants towards my tennis game. I did not get angry or upset when I missed a shot, I simply moved on to the next point. My coaches even noticed and asked me how I had changed my attitude and stayed even calmer this year. This is solely due to Mental Management and my new mindset towards things. I went from being #5 singles to #2 singles and I truly thank them for it!

Miss Frisco, Brooks voted to UT Rush Team

In December, I was nominated for and voted in to the position as Assistant Membership Chairman for Kappa. In normal language, that means that I am now a member of the Rush Team and I could NOT be more excited! I am such a people person and am so passionate about Kappa that this really is my dream position, and I couldn’t be happier to give back to an organization that has given me so much. As Assistant Membership Chair, I am in charge of getting to know as many incoming Freshman as possible (and there are usually over 1,000 that go through rush!) as well as organizing all summer activities, work week, and actual rush week. It is a huge responsibility, but we have an incredible team of girls this year–all of which happen to be my best friends!–and I know we will get the best pledge class possible! Mom’s Weekend:
A few weeks ago (In May), Kappa Kappa Gamma hosted their annual Mom’s Weekend. My mom, Moo, drove the three hours to come visit me and we had a fun filled weekend of laughing, eating, catching up, and shopping (of course!). She didn’t get to come last year, so it was especially fun to have her in Austin to take part in all the festivities. I can’t wait for it again next year!

Miss Plano, Adrianna's Recital

She was amazing! I know I am biased but she truly sang well. She only sang four songs. One in Italian – Non so piu cosa son (from Le Nozze di Figaro), one in German – Du Ring an meinem Finger and two in English – Give me Jesus and Ride the Morning Winds. She had the audience weeping twice and at the end they gave her a standing ovation.
The President of the school, Miles McCall, came up and gave her a big hug and told her that she had him crying from the moment she started to sing. The pianist I think cried the entire time. She is the Director of Music at the school and I know that she and Mr. Brooks are going to miss her next year.
She had about 30 people there and lots of her friends who had graduated last year came back to hear her. She was beautiful as ever and gave an absolutely amazing performance.
If it sounds like I was beaming from ear to ear, you are so right!
Thank you all for sending her messages of encouragement, she was still talking about those when we went to eat after her recital. It really meant a lot to her.

Mr. MPFO has arrived!!

The First Mr. MPFO Pageant was a fun time for all!! The small setting on the stage of the Plano West Senior High Theater was perfect. Kevin Howard and troupe made everyone there laugh. The fathers of the titleholders and LSP were good sports, as well as the supporters from other organizations.

David Dennard was crowned Mr. Frisco, Michael Sproul was crowned Mr. North Texas, Michael Sparks was crowned Mr. Plano, Dominic Locascio was crowned Mr. Talent. Honorable mentions were:Angel Resendes was named Most Handsome, Aaron Richardson was named Most Poised, Beaux Wellborn was named Best Active Wear. Many thanks to our judges for their time and support, thank you to Norv Sykes at PWSH for the use of the theater and his students for their time and help, thank you to Kevin Howard, Mary Anna Dennard and Randy Pruett for their efforts in the show. Thank you to all of the LSP, titleholder families and MPFO board for their help and support in this event. We couldn’t have done it without any of you!!!

Miss Plano Adrianna's upcoming events

Miss Plano, Adrianna Nelson will be performing in her recital this coming Saturday, April 19th. Two of the six to eight songs that she has prepared to sing will be “Give me Jesus” and “Ride the Morning”, one of them will be sung in Italian and the other in German.

Also, on Wednesday April 23rd she has been invited to participate in the Honors Program. Details for this event have not been released yet.

Then on Saturday May 3rd Adrianna will graduate from Lon Morris.

Hillary's thoughts about Spring Meeting

I just returned from spring meeting, and I had a blast. Although you are there to turn in paperwork, listen to speeches, and go to rehearsals I made so many new friends. Some people believe that pageants are full of mean girls, but the reality is that you can meet great people who can be your friends for the rest of your life.
This is my second year as a teen so I knew what to expect, but one thing that I thought was so cool is the service project that everyone had the opportunity to participate in this year. It was for Caitlin’s closet, and I thought it was a great way to help not only the girls in one community, but in many. To get all of my gowns I put bins in a few local schools and the community really showed their support once they found out what I was doing. I collected about seventy-four gowns and I was able to pick really quickly. I was so excited; because I was able to pick the exact position I wanted, X-12. I feel so good about the spot I chose, and I can not wait until this summer!
I could not have done this without the support of the whole MPFO group though. I have learned so much already from them and hope to keep learning. They have such a great group of people helping and I am ecstatic to get to be a part of it all. I am looking forward to representing them this summer and am going to work as hard as I can to do so. ~Hillary Sproul, Teen North Texas 2008

Over spring break I had the awesome opportunity to get together with a lot of the MPFO Lone Star princesses. We had a great time! We had a pizza and blanket making party, it was so much fun. We made blankets together because the auditorium can get pretty cold the week of Miss Texas. This also gave me a chance to bond with the girls. It was so much fun, and I am so glad we decided to do it. They are all so sweet and I can’t wait to get to see them again. I would encourage everyone to organize some type of get together so that they can get to know the girls a little better. They are all so great! Miss North Texas experiences at Spring Meeting

As a first year Miss contestant I was more than ready to experience Spring meeting. Ready to meet all of the contestants, turn in the paper work that I had been working so hard on to another set of hands, get closer with my pageant sisters and learn more about this summer!
Friday started off great, turning in our Caitlin’s Closest dresses for the deserving girls who will receive them for events in their lives.
Thank you thank you to those of you in my hometown of Texarkana who helped me gather these garments. To Pleasant Grove High School with PGTV, long time friends, Troy and Ricardo, the MPFO group and of course my mom! All of you were such a big help, you are awesome! I had close to fifty dresses and was able to pick the group that I wanted B (19)- the BEST group in my opinion ;).
Saturday Adrianna, my amazing roomie, and I got up met the group and head to the high school for rehearsal practice. Just watching Lea and Anna dance was my favorite part, they were SO adorable. Brooks and I will be gracing the stage in the ballet section of the opening while our sisters are dispersed in different groups. MPFO will be all over the stage!
Sunday also was a day of dancing and bonding. We had a great time the whole weekend. After Sunday’s events I headed back to Austin for Capitol Day.

Capitol Day was so great!! I had such a wonderful time touring the capitol, listening to wonderful speakers and learning so much about Texas history. It was really nice to get to know other title holders and rekindle old friendships from when I was a teen contestant. This experience was one of the highlights of the weekend.
Overall meeting was absolutely wonderful! I am so excited and pumped about this summer. I am working hard and ready to be at Miss Texas. I love all of the contestants and am proud to be apart of the Miss Texas Organization! ~Brittany Forrester, Miss North Texas 2008

Miss Frisco's Dress Success at Spring Meeting

Spring Meeting was a huge success! Friday started out with a bang as I was named the contestant who brought in the most dresses for our Caitlin's Closet dress drive and thus I got to pick my placement first (C38, exactly where I wanted!). With the help of countless people, I collected 129 dresses, garnering over 500 points!! My mom (Moo) and I were very resourceful, and surprisingly the number one trick to getting dresses was simply going out there and asking! I put together a Facebook event, sent out text messages to everyone in my phone book, announced it at Kappa, called/emailed friends and family. Also my family at the Kim Dawson Agency, Lone Star Princess moms, the Salvation Army, Moo’s students, and the MPFO board were a great help. A GIGANTIC thank you has to go to my wonderful mother who picked up almost every dress, bagged them, AND labeled them. There is NO way I could have done this with out her. She's the best :).

Saturday was a BLAST! We had rehearsals all morning where we got to learn the choreography for the opening number. Brittany and I were both cast in the ballet section. I really enjoyed not only getting to learn the choreography, but also getting to know all the girls. We had so much fun laughing and tossing our hair and basically hamming it up. All the girls are so fun--I can't WAIT for the summer! Oh and of course the talent show on Saturday night was RIOT!! Who could forget Ricardo in a tutu?? I know I won’t (whether I want to or not...ha-ha!). After the hilarity, Brittany, Anna, Lea and I had a little pageant party in our hotel room and watched the 2006 Miss Texas Production. Lea didn't quite make it to the crowning, though, as we realized she was dead asleep midway through talent ha-ha!

Sunday was filled with more rehearsals and a wrap up meeting. Overall the weekend was really inspiring. It was the extra push I needed to keep going with my preparations and genuinely made me excited about the relationships I am forming between such incredible people. I am so proud of this organization, both locally and statewide, and I am so grateful to know the people within it! I can't wait for July!!

Plano's Outstanding Teen's words about Carrollton Special Olympics

Participating in the Carrollton Special Olympics were several of the Miss Texas Titleholders, including Miss Plano, Adrianna Nelson and Teen Plano, Taylor Lowery. Below are a few pictures from the event and here is a message from Taylor about her participation.

Whenever I get the opportunity to work with the Special Olympics I always say yes if possible. I was able to help with the Carrollton Special Olympics on March 26th.There were several other Miss Texas titleholders that also attended the event. We were asked to encourage and cheer the athletes on as they participated in their events. I met a boy named Ryan who wanted me to watch him run so of course I was there by the track during his race. When he saw me he got so excited he nearly stopped running his race but I yelled and said "Ryan, keep going your doing great"!!! He ended up placing and how fun it was to be able to be the one that placed the medal around his neck. Every time I am able to help with the Special Olympics I thank God that my platform is "It Takes Someone Special to Help the Special". If you ever are offered the opportunity to volunteer at the Special Olympics take advantage of it; the event is well worth your time!!! Plano's outstanding teen and school mate Longview's outstanding teen in Lufkin Daily News

The two girls are Lufkin High School freshmen Morgan Berger and Taylor Lowery and they will compete in the Miss Teen Texas America pageant in Fort Worth in July. Berger won Miss Teen Longview back in December and Lowery won Miss Teen Plano in October.
Growing up Berger and Lowery competed in some of the same pageants. "I remember winning trophies that were taller than me," Berger said. "I stopped when I was around 4 and I was glad because the dresses were always too itchy." Lowery remembers Berger beating her in some contests. "She would always beat me. I was bald until I was about 5 years old and she always had pretty hair," Lowery said.
Lowery gave herself even less time to get prepared for the pageant, deciding just a few weeks ahead of time to compete in the Miss Teen Plano contest.
"I had tried in 2006 and didn't do too well," Lowery said. "I'd been in dance for 12 years and I'd stopped in June, so when I decided to compete I made up and choreographed my own routine." Lowery danced to the song "Chaotic." "Me and one of my friends had been competing with it, but I thought I could do it solo and liked it since it's kinda fast and furious," Lowery said.
Lowery's training for the fitness portion didn't see any changes from her regular routine. "I just like to eat a lot and being in track and also a cheerleader I figured that was enough training," Lowery said. It worked. Lowery won the talent and fitness portions of the pageant.
Lowery's platform is "It takes someone special to help the special." "I'm really involved in Special Olympics and I also help with the mentally challenged the Oak Creek Center here in Lufkin where my aunt works," Lowery said. "I try to encourage everyone to help with the mentally challenged. I think a lot of people are rude and just don't understand, but I want to change that."
Lowery says she gets nervous before the talent portion, but that's not a bad thing in that it gives her energy. She says sometimes during the interview portion she gets asked questions she just doesn't know. "I got asked a political question one time and I just wanted to say 'I don't know, can't you ask me something about math? I'm really good at that,'" Lowery said.
At the pageant, when she realized she'd won Lowery says her first thoughts were, "It's so exciting," and then, "Oh, what do I need to work on and I hope I don't have to go on a diet plan."
Both young ladies now have plenty of time to prepare for Miss Teen Texas.
With Lowery in cheerleading and Berger on the JV drill team, the two girls don't get to spend as much time together, but both will be in Fort Worth this summer competing for the same crown.
"I'm really excited about it," Lowery said. "We'll be there for a week but we won't get to room together or anything."
"It was all worth it," Berger said.

Taylor Lowery, Plano’s Outstanding Teen, competed in her first Varsity track meet and placed first in her heat while running the 300 yard hurdles. She was very excited about placing in first in her first Varsity Track meet. She also competes in 100 yd hurdles, high jump and triple jump. She also placed in both the 100 yd hurdles and high jump at this same meet. She will be attending her district track meet Friday April 4th. Good Luck Taylor!!

Contestants must be:
Naturally born male. Never been pregnant. Breathing.

No Entry Fee. A $50 donation to the Wish Upon A Star Network is required.(aka WUS) Contestants may raise this donation through sponsors who will receive priority seating ON STAGE during the competition.

Areas of competition:

Physical Fitness in ACTIVE wear: Each contestant will model an outfit that expresses his favorite sport, hobby or method of "staying fit". (Or NOT staying fit, whichever the case may be). Hand props are highly encouraged (tennis racquet, golf club, bark-a-lounger). Active wear will count for 37.5% of the contestant's total score.

Personality and Poise in ONSTAGE QUESTION: Each contestant will be asked a question by the judges. No platform questions will be asked. Onstage Question will count for 8.2% of the contestant's total score. (It's a beauty pageant, ya'll!)

Elegance and Grace in EVENING WEAR: Each contestant will model his idea of elegant formal wear. Contestants will be accompanied by a female escort of their choice. (Females should also wear a lovely evening wear outfit). Evening Wear will count for 74.6% of the contestant's total score. (It's a beauty pageant, ya'll!)

OPTIONAL
Artistic expression in TALENT: If a contestant chooses, he can enter the talent competition for an additional $25 sponsorship fee. Talent presentations should be no longer than 1 minute. Contestants will need to bring CD accompaniment. Only hand held microphones will be provided. (It's a beauty pageant, ya'll!)

Calling all Dresses for Caitlin’s Closet. Really, we mean it – but let us explain a little further. Each year Miss Texas holds a "Spring Meeting". During the meeting each contestant signs up for a specific spot for the Miss Texas competition. This placement determines in what order and on which day a girl will compete in swimsuit/fitness, talent, interview and evening gown. Placement, in essence, is determined by the number drawn. If your number is called last, well – you just may have to be the first one on stage when you really wanted to be the last one on stage.
This year the Miss Texas officials are doing placement drawing a little bit different. The current reigning Outstanding Teen America Caitlin Brunell founded an organization called Caitlin’s Closet in 2006. Its purpose is to help young women who would love to attend school functions but many times find it difficult because of financial restraints. As a result to Caitlin’s endeavor, the Miss Texas organization has decided to have the current local title holders collect donations to Caitlin’s closet. And the number of donations each brings to the spring meeting on April 4th will determine when they get to pick their placement at Miss Texas competition.
So we are collecting outfits to help our girls pick their placement. The donations can be Prom/evening dresses, cocktail dresses, dressy pant suits, in good condition. Each item will be worth points: sizes 0-10 worth 3 points, and 12-larger worth 6 points. If you have any donations to help out our girls email us at mpfo@mpfo.com and we will arrange to pick up the garments from you. We would like to have all donations by March 30th.

Merry Christmas from Miss Plano

On Christmas Eve morning, I met several of the other Houston area queens to serve Christmas dinner at the George R. Brown. Dinner was served to over twenty-five thousand people at the 29th Annual City Wide Club Christmas Eve Feast. The purpose of the super feast is to not only provide hot meals. The guests also received utility assistance, senior services, and clothing and food baskets, and for the kids, toys! One of the great things about joining in this feast is getting to meet a lot of people who care about others. There were almost 15,000 volunteers that helped to accomplish this event. There were people who had to cook all the food, people who got there even earlier to set up the tables and chairs and the stage and all the volunteers who came to help serve the food or carry trays. It was a great experience and reminded us all of the reason for the season. This is an event I have had the privilege of participating in for the past four years and I plan to participate for many years to come.

The day began kind of early because we had to meet before 8:00 to be ready to sign pictures for the kids as they waited in line. We spent from 8:00 to 10:00 meeting the children and their parents, autographing pictures for them and getting to know a little bit about them. Of course, we had to stop and take a picture with some of them. Since there were eight of us queens, we split up into groups of two or three so that we could get to see more people. I spent a lot of time with Miss Houston, Rachel Garrett and Miss Teen Houston, Ali York. I did get to spend some time with my little sister from last year, Miss Teen Texas, Callie Thompson. After we finished signing pictures, we had to get prepared to serve the meal. This is always my favorite part! To make sure that we kept the City of Houston Health Department happy, we all had to put on hair nets, little white gowns and plastic gloves. This is always the fun par t because we have to put our crowns on over the hair nets. It makes us look so “cute” too. We all managed to get dressed and even had time to take a picture with a Veteran. Once we were all redressed and ready to go, we were assigned stations to serve the food. It was exciting to greet all the people coming through our line and watching the smiles coming across the faces of the families as they told us what type of food they wanted. The servers, the tray carriers and the families all got to share the joy of what Christmas is all about .

MPFO Titleholders gain Mental Toughness from Olympic Champion

December 21st the girls attended a full day seminar with Olympic Gold Medalist, Lanny Bassham. Lanny is the owner of Mental Management Systems a company that teaches mental control to athletes, performers and business professionals. He has been teaching his system for over 30 years and we are excited to have his company as a sponsor for our training!! Each titleholder received a copy of Lanny's book "With Winning in Mind" and the Audio CD "What Every Pageant Contestant Should Know First About the Mental Game" by Heather Sumlin to review in preparation for their training. They also received a Performance Analysis Journal to help them keep track of their progress throughout the year. Parents and board members also attended the seminar and it was a fun filled day of learning and growing for all of us!

Brooks & Lea Help Honor Our Veterans!

On Saturday, November 10th Miss Frisco, Brooks Dennard and Miss Frisco Outstanding Teen, Lea Ciskowksi were on hand to help honor our Veterans by participating in the Frisco Community Parade.

Congressman Sam Johnson of the 3rd District of Texas served as the Grand Marshall. He is a 29 year veteran and decorated hero of the Korean War who survived 7 years in a POW camp.

The Frisco Community Parade is a long standing tradition and one that has evolved as the town has grown. Long time Frisco residents remember the annual homecoming parade as one of the big events of a small but fast growing town, where thousands of Frisco residents and families lined Main Street to honor the schools, football teams, bands and community organizations that participated. It has been a tradition that has grown each year and one that the Parade Committee wanted to make sure continued.

The Miss Plano Frisco Organization was proud to participate again this year in honoring Veteran’s Day and participating in the annual parade which was also a Salute to Our Troops.

Happy Thanksgiving

As we enter the Holiday season, I thought it would be a great time to remind everybody to remember to count your blessings. Today, I got to spend two hours visiting Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH). TCH is the only Children’s Miracle Network hospital in the greater Houston area, covering 19 counties. I learned today that 100% of the money raised in the Houston area goes directly to TCH and that money will support their Charity Care program for patients. TCH is located in the Houston medical center and is known for its expertise and developments in the treatment of cancer, premature infants, cardiology, diabetes, asthma, HIV/AIDS and attention-related disorders. I thought it might be fun to join their Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) family and lend a hand wherever I could. So I set up a meeting with the Director of the CMN and she agreed to give me a tour of TCH and introduce me to some of her staff. We began the day by touring the floor where they keep babies ranging from various stages of being premature. Each of the babies was really tiny but still adorable. As I walked through the area, I got a chance to talk to some of the parents and they all were really thankful that their baby was alive and in the hands of such great doctors. After we finished there, I got to see the “No Pain” floor. On this floor all the long-term patients at the hospital were really thankful. On this floor, no doctors or nurses are allowed, which means no one can give you a shot! On this floor all the colors were very bright and exciting. There was a library and classroom for studying, but there were also lots of playrooms so that kids could relax and just be kids even though they were in the hospital. It was so awesome to see the kids just kicking back and relaxing even though some of them were attached to the medicine poles. I hung out with them for a little while getting to meet them and sign autographs. When I left the floor, I remembered why I started volunteering in the first place. It’s the warm feeling that you get when you see the smile on someone else’s face. We finished our tour by visiting one of the long term patient floors where I got to spend some time individually with some of the patients and their families. I got to talk to kids ranging from 2 to 16, all who were in various stages of treatments or recovery. I did get to see one little girl who was packing to go home. The smile on her face was a mile wide. As I increase my involvement with both Texas Children’s and the Children’s Miracle Network, I will remember to be Thankful for the things I do have and I hope to make a difference in the lives of all the children I get to meet.

Prayer Requests from Brooks Dennard, Miss Frisco

I have a couple of prayer requests for those of you who read the blog.

The first is for one of my best friends, Shara, whose daddy passed away yesterday. He choked on part of his dinner at a business meeting and despite multiple tries, the Heimlich didn't work. The ambulance took 30 minutes to come and by the time he was taken to ICU he had 1% brain activity. They made the incredibly tough decision to take him off life support last night. Shara is in my Kappa pledge class at Texas and is actually going to be my roommate next year. She is brilliant (Plan II), witty, and most of all sincere. This sudden tragedy has really shaken up all of us. Please pray for her and her family.

Also, another close friend, Aaron, was just diagnosed with bone cancer. He's a freshman Fiji at UT and is going to have to take off 10 weeks for chemotherapy. Athletic, smart, driven, hilarious; there is not a person I know that doesn't love Aaron. Luckily, he is a fighter and with prayers, we know he'll beat this.

Light the Night Walk, Lea Ciskowski - Miss Teen Frisco

I am happy to say that my first appearance as Miss Teen Frisco was awesome! I was invited to sing the national anthem at the Light the Night Walk in Frisco , Texas , at the beautiful Dr. Pepper Ballpark. This walk is a fundraiser for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society that raises funds for people with Lymphoma and Leukemia. It is very close to my heart because I have had two family friends diagnosed with these cancers. Every year, my family and friends have participated in this fundraiser and this year, I was lucky enough to not only participate, but to also begin the festivities by singing the National Anthem.

There were so many people! I got to visit and play with the children at the "Kidz Zone" area of the park. There were crafts and games everywhere! One thing I love about being a titleholder is being able to visit with these children and having them think you are the coolest thing in the world because you have a crown on your head. They always say "Look! It's a princess!" And sometimes I forget that I have a crown on and want to turn around and say, "A princess? Where?!" They were so sweet and ENERGETIC! It is hard to keep up with them in heels!It was a wonderul day, and a beautiful night with all of the lit balloons. I am so glad I got to share this experience with you.

Just Keep Smiling - Anna Nelson, Miss Plano

When people ask me what is one of my greatest assets, I always answer, “My smile.” So when our Service Learning Director asked if I wanted to help with a mission to help others smile, I of course said, “Yes!” So on Friday and Saturday, November 2 and 3, I had the privilege of volunteering with a dentistry mission in Houston at the Spring Branch Family Development Center. The mission was sponsored by the Texas Dental Association Smiles Foundation and is known as the Texas Mission of Mercy (TMOM). TMOM is a large multi-day dental mission that brings hundreds of dentists, dental professionals and other volunteers from across Texas together to donate their professional services. Their goal is to relieve immediate pain and restore smiles.

I joined 42 other students from Lon Morris, more than 400 dentists, and over 100 other volunteers from many walks of life. Over the two days we helped at least 800 people get dental work performed that was needed but they could not afford. Our job was to assist the patients in getting the paperwork filled out, walk them from station to station, keep the area clean, help to set up and tear down the tents, and my favorite part was to talk to them to get them to relax. The days were long! I had to be there by 6:30 in the morning both Friday and Saturday morning. Although it seemed as though our work was never ending, watching the patients smiling as they were leaving made it all worthwhile.

When asked what my favorite part about helping these two days, my response was easy. Getting to help others feel that their smile is special and telling them as they left to "Just Keep Smiling!"

"4th Time is a Charm" by Lea Ciskowski, Miss Teen Frisco 2008

I remember three years ago on October 16th, 2004, I competed for the first time at the Teen Plano/Frisco pageant. I had no idea what I was doing yet I felt more confident than a 12 year old girl would have at that young of age competing in her first pageant. I owe this to Jan Mitchell, the first person related to the Miss America system that I ever met, and her absolutely wonderful board. I had confronted Jan about competing and she wholeheartedly supported me, even though I was this very timid and very young girl. She encouraged me after I did not win her pageant to keep trying. And I did. I have been trying and working for three years now, and finally on the fourth try, I have won the Miss Teen Frisco title.

I am still in awe. I do not think that my heart has ever beaten so fast! At first I did not even think they said my name. I stood on stage for what seemed like an hour wondering whether or not to step forward. After that VERY long moment, I realized I had won. When I stepped forward and bent my shaky knees to be crowned (which burns so badly, by the way!), I knew that this was going to be the beginning of a wonderful, exciting year with a great group of people.

I am also looking forward to working with the directors and getting to know my "sister" titleholders better.

Taylor, you are hilarious! I am looking forward to some pretty interesting and fun sleepovers with you and please bring Boomer, your beagle, and he can bond with my beagle, Nippy!

Brooks, my new miss, you are such a sweet, talented, and beautiful young woman who I have looked up to ever since I met you at the 2005 Plano/Frisco pageant workshop. You were so helpful and encouraging. It is so ironic that you are my miss because you went to Hockaday and I attend Ursuline. For those of you who do not know, Ursuline and Hockaday are rivals! Go BEARS :] !

Brittany, I cannot wait to get to know you better! You are truly a genuine and beautiful person who has always welcomed me with open arms of support and advice.

And Adrianna. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to get to know you better. You seem like such a wonderful young lady who is gorgeous, talented, and very intelligent.

I cannot wait to make so many memories with all of you. You are all extremely gifted young women.

And lastly, I have to say that I am exhilarated to finally be able to represent my hometown area. I cannot wait to begin my year representing Frisco and training for the Miss Teen Texas pageant in July. We have a great group of girls, and some of the nicest, most supportive, and most genuine board of directors that I cannot wait to spend the year with.

With hands clinched and a hope in my heart I stood anxiously on stage as Shilah Phillips announced 2nd runner up... 1st runner up... and your new Miss North Texas is contestant number 18 Brittany Forrester!!!! Just to hear my name overwhelmed me with such an excitement for the great honor and opportunity I had just received. I’m excited to now be a part of an organization who has already in the few days I had been there for the pageant shown such a caring demeanor and a sincere concern toward me and all of the contestants. From the moment I walked into the theater and saw all of the welcoming faces I knew this was a special group of people. Already, they had been there to help me through questions with paper work, making sure I was organized, and keeping all of us girls calm, cool and collected! I knew that if I was given the honor of a title Sunday night my life would be changed. And that night all I could think about was how truly gracious I felt that the judges saw something in me so that I could move forward and become apart of the Miss Plano Frisco Organization.

Heather, Cassidy, and Erin the final words you left to the board before you gave your titles away were wonderful. Those are the reasons why we are here. All of the comments that you left behind truly reflect you as amazing people and the backbone that holds you up. The three of you are such an example of what a great board of directors the MPFO group is and how each and every one of them has a place in your hearts. This is my hope for this next year as Miss North Texas 2008. Not only to work as hard as I can at my job in preparation for Miss Texas, through my platform, and service but while doing so form relationships that will last a lifetime. These relationships will not only be with the board, but with my new pageant sisters. The new Miss Frisco, Brooks Dennard who always makes me smile, I know we are going to have a blast this year!! I remember the first time I met you when I was 15 years old my first year at Teen Texas... Oh how we bonded backstage!! Those kind of moments I am so looking forward to this year! HOOK ‘EM! Adrianna Nelson the new Miss Plano, I am so excited to get to know you better! I think the three of us are going to be a great group. You seem to be such a sweet classy girl and I am honored to share my year with you and Brooks.

I am not only very excited about my year with the miss titleholders, but also with the cutest teens out there, Lea Miss Teen Frisco and Taylor Miss Teen Plano. The two of you seem like such great girls and I am looking forward to becoming closer with both of you throughout this year. Lea, who took over my second runner up position the next year of Teen Texas! ;) You are so amazing and have such a great voice. I have always admired you so much and couldn't be happier that you will be one of our little sisters! Taylor, I am also am very excited to get to know you more and spend time with you through our year as MPFO girls! We truly do have a wonderful group!

To start off my year I would like to say thank you to Jan for being such an encouragement. I am anxious to start working, and to get to know you and your amazing board that much better. This next year is going to be that of excitement, hard work, and friendships! I can't wait to get started!

I cannot begin to explain the sweet joy I felt when Shilah Phillips called my name out as the new Miss Frisco this past Sunday night! In my few years in pageantry, no group has been more of a rock, more uplifting, and more of a family to me as the board members of the MPFO. Way back when, at 14, I was fortunate enough to win the Miss Teen Plano crown and from the moment that golden crown (they were gold back then!) was placed on my head, I was welcomed with open arms into the kindest group of people I know. They have been there through thick and thin (literally!)--in search of that perfect teen evening gown, at El Fenix whenever we needed to talk, for interview prep, a swimsuit walk, pageant DVD's, and Christmas every year. Even when my dad lost his job, when my family was desperate, falling apart, Jan and her crew were there to give me a hug and a smile that meant so much to my 15 year old frame. Now, just days before my 20th birthday, I can't believe how lucky I am to be an official part of the family again! Jan and her board members truly care so much about all their girls--title holders and contestants alike--and I'm so excited to be back with the old crew--this truly feels like home!

Beyond the MPFO themselves, another reason this year is going to be so meaningful (and of course exciting!) is because of my new pageant sisters! Brittany, the new Miss North Texas, and I go way back--all the way to when we were both blondes if you can believe it! She has always been such a sincere friend, and I can't wait for all the laughs we're going to share this year. Both being Longhorns, carpooling will most certainly be a plus too! Adrianna, the new Miss Plano, and I also go way back. We competed together as teenagers at the Miss Teen Texas pageant and we were 6th and 7th place at Miss Texas in 2006! She is so beautiful, insightful, and FUNNY--I can't wait to get to know her even better. I couldn't have planned it better myself!

And last but not least, I cannot wait to hang with Lea and Taylor, the new MPFO teens! Lea, the new Frisco Teen and thus my new "little sister" is so great--smart, funny, and dynamic, I'm excited to bond with her this year. Interestingly enough, Lea goes to Ursuline, the arch-rival of my alma matter (Hockaday) but I'm sure that wont hold us back from being fast friends...even though Hockadaisies are better, right Lea ;) ?? Taylor, the new Plano Teen, also seems like such a genuine, poised young lady, and I can't wait to see her grow over the year.

A huge thank you to Heather, Cassidy, and Erin! Ya’ll put on a fantastic show, and all three of you are so inspiring. Good luck in all that you do!

Don't let the interview freak you out! Just be yourself and remember the most important thing is not that you know all of the answers but that the judges get a good grasp of your platform and that you are an intelligent, warm, sociable young woman.

Believe that you are strong and powerful young woman and have confidence. Competition is always stressful even for the pros, so remember to take a few moments to do some relaxation exercise before competition to center yourself. What Does it Mean to Win? by Heather Sumlin

(This is a message we sent to our contestants in an email this week and thought we would add it to the blog in case it is helpful to others)

I know that you have worked hard preparing for next weekend. This may be your first pageant or your 30th but my message is the same no matter your level of experience. Winning is not always about who leaves with the crown at the end of the evening. Winning IS always about walking away feeling like a winner inside. In pageants we spend a lot of time telling girls about prize packages and what you "get" if you win a title. I want to spend a moment to tell you what you receive no matter where you place.

My Father is Olympic Gold Medalist, Lanny Bassham and he will be helping to train the new titleholders to be mentally prepared for competition. At the Spring Meeting for Miss Texas last year he said "Everything we do in life is preparation for something greater". This pageant is preparation for something for you. For 5 girls it will mean you will win a title and train with the MPFO team to compete for the state title. For everyone else it will be preparation for something else...another competition, your dream job, a future performance, you may meet someone who changes your life, you never know.

We learn more on our struggle up the mountain than we do standing on the summit. Those who walk away without the crown could gain more from the experience than those who win. We learn about determination, perseverance, taking on challenges and striving to be the best we can no matter the odds even if we don't win the title. When we step outside our comfort zone and challenge ourselves we live up to our expectation!

You do not win or lose in competition - you Win or Learn! There is no lose if you chose to take every experience as preparation for something greater. I have met most of you and I know this is going to be a fun competition. The reality is that most of you will go home without a crown because that is how competition works - not everyone takes home the prize. However, I learned so much through competing when I didn't win that I would never advise someone to wait and only compete if they knew they could win. I bet I competed in 40 pageants over 7 years and I won 6 titles. Many times I left a competition without a crown but I never left without growing as a person. I never saw my experience in pageants as a loss. Every competition taught me something and I am who I am today based on those experiences. I didn't wait until I knew I could win before I started competing. My Father always says "perfection is the purest form of procrastination". I'm so proud of you for stepping out of your comfort zone and taking a chance to go for your dreams realizing that to wait until you are perfect would be waiting a lifetime!

Typical people have fear that holds them to a level less than their potential. Typical people do not compete in pageants - typical people do not demand more from themselves and put themselves in positions to be disappointed.

Thank you for stepping outside of what is typical and walking down the road to unique and extraordinary!

My advice to you for next Sunday is to HAVE FUN! Enjoy every moment and take it all in. The more fun you have the better your chances of success! Focus on each individual phase of competition as they come and NOT on winning! Your chances of winning the title increase when you focus on having fun!!

Saying Good-Bye to Heather, Cassidy, Erin & Klancy

In only 3 short weeks we will be saying good-bye to Heather Hodges, Miss Frisco, Cassidy Arend, Miss Plano, Erin Hunt, Teen Frisco and Klancy Johnson, Teen Plano. This will be extremely tough for our entire board. We have come to know and love each of these young ladies and have been blessed to have them in our lives this year.

Heather Hodges has been a member of our MPFO family for 2 years now as Miss Plano and Miss Frisco. If you do not know her you may not see that she has a silly personality and is quick witted. She has a loving and giving spirit almost to a fault because she does not like to disappoint anyone. This spirit has made it impossible not to love her. This past year she started nursing school with hopes of changing lives through medicine. She is probably most known for her voice and body at Miss Texas. The last two years she has won double preliminary awards for talent and swimsuit. She is a hard worker and dedicated to perfection in everything she tackles in life. No matter what, this young lady will be successful! As Miss Plano she placed 4th Runner Up to Miss Texas and as Miss Frisco she came as close as you can to wearing that crown, taking 1st Runner Up. She would have made an incredible Miss Texas but God did not have that in his plans for her. Due to the new age requirements, Heather is no longer eligible to compete for Miss Texas but she is not sad; she is excited for the future and all it holds. She won a great amount of scholarship money to help pay for nursing school along the way. We have no doubt she will make an amazing nurse and continue the fight against muscular dystrophy. Good Luck Heather!!

Cassidy Arend, Miss Plano, has been a breath of fresh air to our organization. She is never at a loss for words and her creative mind just keeps on going. For only being 18 her interview skills are remarkable. She has an opinion and she's not scared to share it. We all learned a great deal from Cassidy. She has energy and a fun loving spirit that has been a blessing. We are really excited to see what she will bring to the table on October 21st at the pageant. She is our co-producer for the show and created the theme (007: Bond Girls). She puts 100% into every task she attempts. We have watched her grow and mature this year. We hope that we impacted her life as much as she has ours. We have changed some habits due to Cassidy; watching how long we run the water or turning off lights as we leave rooms. Her efforts to change the environment have made a difference on not just the students she spoke to at school appearances but to our entire board. She will make a difference in our world and her dream of changing the environment will never stop coming true. She is dedicated to making a difference with each step she takes! We can't wait to see where those steps lead her! Good Luck Cassidy!!

Erin Hunt had also been a member of MPFO for 2 years. She was our Teen Plano and then our Teen Frisco. This girl is truly inspiring. It's not often that we find a teen with more drive and determination to leave no stone unturned in preparation for pageant. She is self motivated and self driven. Her preparation for Miss Teen Texas started as soon as she won Teen Frisco this year. Before you could ask Erin if she had done something she would show you the finished product. She has her planner with her at all times and it is FULL. At 16 she was driving all over North Texas alone doing appearances, training and meeting with us. She has no fear and her belief in her abilities is something we should all follow and aspire to achieve. Her efforts have been rewarded well at Miss Teen Texas. She was 3rd Runner Up as Teen Plano. This past July as Teen Frisco she won overall fitness, preliminary talent and was named 1st Runner Up. She wanted desperately to win Miss Teen Texas and although it is a tough reality to know she does not have the title, she is moving forward and excited for all her future has to offer. We know we will see her on that Miss Texas stage again. Erin and her entire family will always be near and dear to our hearts! Good Luck Erin!!

Klancy Johnson, our Teen Plano was a remarkable addition to our family....and will forever be a part of our family. When a titleholder lives 3 hours away it is less easy to spend the quality time needed to prepare but Klancy is a special girl. When she did come into town it was a no-nonsense trip, not a vacation. She was working whether it be on talent or her figure Klancy threw her training into high gear during May & June. She came and stayed at "pageant central" for two weeks straight after school was over. She set goals and stuck to her plan to achieve her goals better than most successful business owners. We can't wait to see what she has in store for our local pageant this year. She is not competing but is performing a special number for our board! It will be a surprise to all who attend. Klancy has a true passion and drive for her platform. There is no doubt that she will continue to educate our country on breast cancer awareness for the rest of her life. She is dedicated to her platform and her talents. She has an album out available on her website http://www.klancyjohnson.com/ that she recorded a couple of years ago. We have not seen the last of her - she will continue to sing and grace audiences for the rest of her life. Good Luck Klancy Pants!!

Our Plano and Frisco titleholders (now Miss North Texas, too) do not just win a title and walk away - they stay with us as members of our family. We adopt them and their families for life. We challenge them, encourage them, train them, laugh with them and help them grow but more than anything they challenge us, change us, encourage us, motivate us and give us a reason to keep giving to this amazing organization. Without young women like Heather, Cassidy, Erin and Klancy being a volunteer would be much less rewarding. We look forward to the future and are anxious to know who will carry on these titles for next year but we will forever look back on this year and remember the amazing young women who changed our lives!

We will miss you ladies!!

New Deadline for Competitors! Sign Up By October 6th!!

Our deadline for artwork in the program book is October 6th! We need a headshot and any ads for the program by October 6th or they will miss the book.

Looks like we will have a wonderful group of girls this year. Our Miss division numbers are strong enough to give all 3 titles but there is always room for more contestants!

Our Teen numbers are very low right now so if you are between the ages of 13 & 17 please consider competing so we can give all titles and a better chance to win! Right now we do not have enough girls to give all 3 titles.

We are busy working on our prize package, goodie bags, judges gifts, production, training for new contestants, fundraisers for next spring, and much more. Busy, busy, busy! We have started the countdown to our pageant on October 21st! We are taking applications now. We have several Miss contestants but our teen numbers are low at this point. Build Your Own Scholarship: we offer a chance for contestants to earn scholarship dollars through ad sales each year. For every ad they sell 50% of the money earned will go back to the contestant in cash. The other 50% we will use to help run the show and pay for the program book printing, etc. Because we are doing a large program book we need to have the deadline for artwork at October 6th. MPFO Titleholders Receive Mental Management Training

Seventeen years old, gangly, a self-proclaimed awkward tomboy who had just won Miss South Carolina Teen USA. Sounds quite strange in and of itself, but that was me. Though I’d been modeling for the larger portion of my life, I’d spent most of my years being teased about my weight and features. Then out of the blue, my childhood best friend convinces me that I should do a pageant. I never thought in a million years that I would win! But I am everyday thankful for having had that opportunity. Not necessarily because of the “obvious” reasons, but because of the seemingly smaller parts of the “prize package.”

After winning the title, I was told that I had a scholarship to Eagle “U.” My first question is, “What is an Eagle “U?” And the only answer that I was given was “You’re going to love it.” And they were right. I loved it. I walked onto the campus of Georgetown University an awkward teenager living under her circumstances, stained with a significant amount of self-doubt, a ridiculously low self-image, and a smile to cover up all of my “stuff.” All this while preparing for an opportunity of a lifetime. Not many people would know that I, “Miss Congeniality,” would feel the way that I did but Eagle “U” gave me the chance to be myself with no judgements and nothing but love, support, and amazing advice.

The tools that I learned in those five days of my life would lead me to the most momentous paradigm shift of my still changing life. The study skills I learned kept me on the Dean’s List. The interview skills have gotten me every job I’ve ever applied for. The goal setting I learned has kept me focused on all the things I know that I’m destined to accomplish. The mentoring program helped me “copy genius instead of creating mediocrity.” I was taught to have self- confidence and learned how to be a 10 every day. I learned to have an “attitude of gratitude,” how to love and respect myself enough to go after my dreams, and help other people get “more of what they want and less of what they don’t want.”

Eagle “U” has literally made me a better person. If I could give advice to any teenager, parent, guardian, or any person who cares about a teenager or college student, I would tell them to ship their kid/student to Eagle “U” for five days for the rest of their lives. And when they ask where they’re going, let them know that they’ll love it and rest assured that at the VERY least your student will walk “off campus” a more focused, loving, ambitious, more capable version of themselves.

The Miss Plano Frisco Scholarship Organization is a local franchise of the Miss Texas Organization and the Miss America Organization. We are committed to helping young women achieve excellence and providing positive growth opportunities. Our primary objectives are to help young women build confidence, cultivate skills, earn scholarships, showcase strengths, and serve the community.

The Miss Texas Organization, headquartered in Fort Worth, provides a statewide forum for today's young women to express their viewpoints, talents and accomplishments to Texas audiences. Eligibility for competition in the Miss Texas Organization begins by winning a local preliminary title, like Miss Plano or Miss Frisco. This organization, which operates at the state and local levels, is a remarkable community of people dedicated to the idea that talent, commitment and hard work can make you, and your community better.

The Miss Texas Outstanding Teen program promotes scholastic achievement, creative accomplishment, healthy living and community involvement for girls (ages 13 - 17). This program also gives younger teens an avenue to develop their public speaking skills and a forum to present their talents and viewpoints as well as providing them with the opportunity to be better prepared as they move into the "Miss" competition age group.

The Miss Texas Scholarship Pageant Lone Star Princess program is for young ladies (ages 6 - 12). The purpose of the program is for the local Miss Texas titleholder to mentor these young ladies who may have an interest in competing someday in the Miss Texas Scholarship Pageant and who are interested in community service. The Princesses will have the opportunity as provided by the local pageant director and local titleholder to be a part of the titleholder's year.

The Miss America Organization is a not for profit corporation that has maintained a lasting positive effect for women over the last century. They have been instrumental in shaping this nation's concept of women since the inception of the program in 1921. The Miss America Organization has helped to empower women in achieving their personal, scholastic and professional goals by providing over 45 million dollars annually in scholarships for women. The competition exists for the purpose of providing opportunities for young American women and promoting their voice in culture, politics, and the community.
